Even I had to remind my publisher to send me a phone ring lol. It’s a ring that you stick on the back of your phone to make it easier to hold. The one currently on the back of mine is from the WE WERE LIARS campaign ha. They’re useful! Pre-order now!
Also, we are delayed sending out winners’ books for our giveaways. I’m sorry! I signed them all though. My assistant and my entire family had Covid over the holidays and we’re all just starting to come out of the Covid cocoon. We were all lucky, we were boosted and it was Omicron so it was pretty mild. But even so, with the holidays and a lot of family emergencies, Team Mel was pretty out of it for months. And now it is MARCH! How is it MARCH!
It feels like we are still in March 2020 so it’s strange to think two years went by. We managed to survive by hanging out with good friends, trying not to be too annoyed with each other, trying not to fall into bad habits and working a lot. My husband and I are workaholics. We just like working. This is what happens when your hobbies become your work. I guess it doesn’t feel like work? Not that writing and publishing is fun all the time. Have you ever heard a group of writers together? All we do is COMPLAIN. I actually decided I would stop that. It’s like when I worked in fashion and all we would do is WHINE about how TOUGH it was to go from FASHION SHOW to FASHION show in a town car. I guess it’s humble bragging? This was pre-internet-era. That’s how old I am lol. Before Uber!
Anyway, television was made for the pandemic because all I wanted to be was NUMB. But I am starting to READ books again, and I think that means I’m more optimistic about the future than not. Books are awesome! Who knew? LOL.
Brandon Sanderson launched a kickstarter yesterday that raised 15 million dollars for four new books. INCREDIBLE. And to me, as a writer / producer / publisher, it’s so inspiring. The fact that people want BEAUTIFUL books. Beautifully leather bound and lavishly illustrated books! We are book nerds. I have leather bound beautiful copies of Lord of the Rings, The Vampire Chronicles, and Game of Thrones. They are all gifts from my husband. I would gladly buy beautiful editions of books I love, and I’m so glad Brandon reminds us of that. It’s something to think about, for sure.
Also! I am working on a new TV project! It’s under development but not announced yet. (Soon soon soon they tell me we can shout it from the rooftops!) It’s going really well and I’m starting to get really excited. The team is FANTASTIC. CAVEAT: IT IS NOT BLUE BLOODS. (lol)
I tried! I tried really hard with Blue Bloods TV. And maybe one day it will happen. But right now, things are not as alive as I would like them to be. There might be a chance to do it but they’ve asked me to make some big changes to the project for it to happen. So right now I’m mulling whether I want to make these changes. I probably do, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. (But never fear! Vampires never die.)
Also the REBOOT is out in July! BLUE BLOODS: AFTER LIFE is out this summer!
Never After Two: The Stolen Slippers is out now too. This is my favorite favorite book of my series. I feel like this really hit the ground running. I’m finishing the third book right now too and I’m just enjoying hanging out with these characters SO MUCH.
Anyway, happy March! In Los Angeles it was 96 degrees yesterday with not a cloud in the sky and I am grateful always to be safe, happy and working. I hope you are too.
XOXO
Mel
